"Our unique exercise program resulted in greater increases in muscle hypertrophy than most other weight training study. The results in muscle thickness can be recalculated to the cross section area represents an increase of 17.3% (0.25% per day), an increase which is much greater than the average of 0.11% per day reported in a large meta-analysis (Wernbom, Augustsson & Thomée 2007) "Daniel Cortobius and Niklas Westblad

"Training at intensities as low as 20% 1 repetition maximum with moderate vascular occlusion results in muscle hypertrophy in as little as 3 weeks."

Loenneke, Jeremy Paul BS;
Pujol, Thomas Joseph EdD, CSCS

When exercising occlusion training you reach metabolic stress, but without the high level of mechanical stress than would be needed if the muscle had free access to diversion of slag products and "old" blood. Using blood flow restriction also reduces the risk of muscle injury and this opens up more areas of use. -Richard Drott

 "Occlusion training could provide additional benefits to traditional strength training to improve muscular hypertrophy and muscular strength in collegiate athletes."

Farley, Richard S.; Caputo, Jennifer L.
